The long process behind the mugs that won your hearts

The long process behind the mugs that won your hearts

What does it take to make a mug that feels like a ritual in your hands? For the past few months, I’ve been slowly shaping one that now feels just right,  and I’d love to share the story with you.

Behind some mugs are months of sketching, testing clays and glazes, reworking, and making quiet decisions no one ever sees.

The Rooted ceremonial mug started as a simple idea back in January, a wish to create something that felt just right for cacao and matcha.

I wanted a mug that could hold a ritual, not just a drink. Something grounding, with intention built into every curve.

It took four months to get there.

I spent hours reading about shape and size. I wasn't sure at first if I wanted one mug for both rituals or two different ones. The clay had to feel right, textured, but not too rough. At first, I was drawn to a brick-red tone, but I fell completely in love with a deep, rich brown. It felt like mother earth in my hands. I shaped and reshaped until the form felt both open and stable, wide enough to whisk matcha without splashing, and still solid to hold.

And this is the result:

The final version has a raw, unglazed exterior with a slightly rough texture.

But it couldn’t be only brown. It needed something more, something that carried meaning. Decorations that feel like symbols, representing all the important things a ceremony holds, were just right to complete and circle this beautiful story.

The inside of the cacao mug is glazed in a deep brown that holds the warmth of cacao. The matcha version has a lighter interior that makes the green glow.

It’s one of those mugs that doesn’t shout for attention, but when you hold it, you understand.
And yes, you sensed it just by seeing the pictures.
I’ve sold every single one I’ve made (except one I kept for myself ☺️)

I’ve been using it every morning, during those soft, quiet hours before the day begins 🤎

If this earthy, textured mug speaks to you and you feel a need for grounding, you’re welcome to preorder it here.
